Review of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) by Jackson W — 16 Oct 2013

Well, unfortunately, this was a huge step backwards for the Potter films. The weakest of the series in fact. I knew it wouldn't be easy to top Goblet of Fire, but this film honestly sucked. It had all the tired cliches from the older films (Harry's past, rivalry with Voldemort, trying to figure out who he is, etc.

) and also a lot of clips from the older films and also earlier clips from this one. You know a film is weak when it constantly regurgitates it's scenes in flashbacks. And this one pulled the stunt a lot.

Also, you had the villain, which I despise. I absolutely couldn't stand Professor Umbridge, they tried to make her creepy, but she was annoying as all heck. She's like the doting grandmother or the nightmarish substitute teacher.

In that regard, why not name this film "Harry Potter and the Substitute Teacher" since the marketed "Order of the Phoenix was only in the first 10 minutes? Kinda like how in Sorcerers Stone, the stone doesnt appear until the third act.

Not only all that, but the climax, while mildly entertaining, never ended. I swear, this film could have been 4 hours long. It took forever for the dark minions to be destroyed, and I'm convinced they never were and they will be back to bore us yet again.

Honestly, the only thing I liked about this flick was the relationships between the characters. I would have liked to see more development with the friendships and the bond that everyone had, considering this film had so much weak dialogue about love and friendship that I've heard before in classic Disney films.

As a follow up to the lone perfect masterpiece, this was very rushed, weak, and clumsy. Must avoid.
