Review of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) by Magnus G — 18 Sep 2014
For the first time in the franchise, casting is one of the weak points of the film - Jim Broadbent is too comedic in the vital role of Horace Slughorn, and despite the clear effort put into developing Bonnie Wright as Ginny, it is clear that the latter's growing importance as a character blindsided the production team.
Despite some bizarre and unnecessary additional scenes, the rest of the film is very well-executed, with bring spots of humour to keep the mood out of the shadows.
