Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011) by Gianni M — 30 Aug 2013
Disclaimer: As mentioned in all previous reviews of the Harry Potter franchise; I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and as such can not claim to even the slightest bit of unbiased-ness. My review will be that of a fan, so bear that in mind.
Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows part II: The penultimate conclusion to the epic Harry Potter 7 book, 8 film extravaganza! And in my honest opinion by far and away the best film in the series.
This film is flawless in practically every regard. Let's go through them one by one just for the heck of it:
Story: Obviously, this is based on the book, but in my opinion this is the only part of the movie franchise that surpasses the book in any way. Firstly, it is the darkest. Multiple key characters are dying left front and center throughout the film. Secondly, it is action packed. There is almost no fillers in this 2 and a half hour film. It's go go go all the way. Lastly, the flashback scene with Snape's memory sequence is the crowning achievement of the entire eight film epic and is the only part of the entire film series that I thought was in any way superior to the book.
Direction: In a word "Masterful". It has a balance of just about everything. Tells the story as faithfully as can be expected, yet does not bore us at any point in time. The director must have been a true fan to put this much effort into the smallest details.
Acting: By far and away the best acting, except for maybe Deathly Hallows part 1, but if so just barely. Again the weakest link is Radcliffe, but even he does amicably. The rest of the cast is stunning.
VFX / Sound: Dumbfoundingly great. Really setting the bar for high quality visual and audio effects while delivering a master-piece for the soundtrack. I was literally on the edge of my seat throughout.
Overall, this movie is the reason to watch the other seven. Even if you don't like Harry Potter, sit through the others to get to this incredibly conclusion. If you are a Harry Potter fan, you have already watched this film, so meh...
