Review of Harry Brown (2009) by Eric S — 30 Jan 2014
This movie reflects, very accurately, the fear that affects many elderly people living in British sink estates among conscienceless yobs. It's expertly directed, Michael Caine is great, the British yob mentality is portrayed accurately and brilliantly and the acting by all is superb.
I keep seeing comments about this film being a British version of Death Wish or Gran Torino. I'll grant the basic plot has much in common with those two but the background and scripting have an originality of their own and Michael Caine's sincere and convincing performance was far more enjoyable to me than the wooden acting of Charles Bronson.
