Review of Harry & Snowman (2015) by Larry M — 30 Sep 2016
An inspiring and emotional film which touches on a mystical relationship between a man, his family and a horse. This is a true story of a Dutch immigrant to the US, who had fought in the Dutch resistance in WW2 (just mentioned in the film, but not extensively discussed) and saved horses left to die by the Nazis in the Netherlands, who saved a plough horse that was about to be ground up into dog food.
That horse became one of the greatest American show horses of all time, defeating other horses in competition that were bought for high prices and groomed by wealthy families. This film is deeply emotional and moving, though a documentary, and evidences the potential of deep mystical relationships between people and animals.
I thought this was one of the best films of my lifetime.
