A rule of thumb: just because you're the first of anything doesn't mean you're the best; this is what Nickelodeon found out the hard way with "Harriet the Spy" in 1996. Despite Michelle Trachtenberg's charm on screen, the story is unimaginative and the performances are pretty forgettable.
