Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Jonathan K — 15 Dec 2010
At the outset I didn't really like this movie, but by the final scene it had won me over. the cat stevens folk soundtrack gives the movie a real indie feel and director Hal Ashby plays the balance between dark comedy and romantic comedy expertly.
it's definitely quirky, but the quirks give the movie it's charm. and the memorable, and surprisingly inspiring, lines Ruth Gordon delivers throughout provide Harold And Maude with the lift and hope it pushes the audience towards.
