Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Kylie P — 15 Jan 2010
Recommended to me by a friend. I was sceptical at first, the plot sounded absolutely insane, the characters ridiculous and their relationship even more implausible, howeverâ?¦I actually really enjoyed it.
Although bizarre, itâ??s poignant and insightful. Director Hal Ashby courageously takes on this black comedy with grace and depth, bringing a subtle humour to the otherwise deeply disturbing topics. This isnâ??t a film about death and suicide but about life, a beautiful portrayal of grabbing hold of life as opposed to â??dwelling morbidly on mortalityâ??.
A whole load of quirk with great performances. And Cat Stevens rocking the soundtrack to complete it.
