Review of Hardcore Henry (2015) by Scott R — 11 Apr 2016
Sharlto Copley really saved this movie from complete mediocrity. His characters were funny and cool and his "gimmick" really pulled the movie together in the end. Everyone else was boring and expendable including the faceless voiceless "main character" Henry. I'm sure they deliberated endlessly over the merits of giving him a voice, but I can help but feel it would have helped break up the relentless barrage of action and random gunshots and grunts.
I don't think the first person camera was enough to build a movie on, considering how much if a story they had to sacrifice. it basically boiled down to "look at this phone GPS, now go here kill people, okay here's the next location go kill people.".
I thought the camera constricted the action scenes more than gave any new experiences. the only scenes that benifitted were the chase and parkour scenes.
The final scene I liked a lot though. they were totally ridiculous and embraced it. Also I don't understand why the Villain had telekinesis super power idk. the ending was pretty funny.
