Review of Hardcore Henry (2015) by Rene H — 12 Apr 2016
5-8 minutes into Hardcore Henry it grabs you by the collar and begins slapping the living hell out of you. At first these repeated, non-stop slaps are funny, but soon they are exhausting and eventually are downright painful.
Hardcore Henry is an exercise in "how many different ways can a person be killed," mixed in with a case of red bull, a bag of coffee and fifth of vodka. The movie jumps along from violence to violence, and while there are utterly hilarious events which take place in Henry's peripheral vision, the movie spends little to no time letting you see it; if you blinked you missed it.
Maybe I've gotten too old. Maybe I went to see it too late in the evening. Maybe First Person Perspective has lost its novelty, I don't know. In the end, Hardcore Henry was fast, intense, tiring, and a total waste of my time.
