Review of Hardcore Henry (2015) by Digger N — 03 Sep 2016
Just a brief review no bullshit here folks.
While the movie accomplishes incredible technical feats, it's nearly non existent plot and non stop action may be too much for some viewers. As an avid gamer, I personally found the action to be intense and fluid. However, my 60 year old father who watched this movie with me wasn't so happy. He felt motion sick because he felt the camera was "Strapped to the head of a cheetah re-entering the atmosphere. While his complain is more than valid, I felt that as the movie progresses you notice the shaky-cam less and less. Whether or not you feel the same will depend on the kind of person you are.
This is most definitely the definition of a popcorn flick. A nonsensical plot with whacky characters and alot and I mean ALOT of action. I came in expecting an action showcase and that's exactly what I got. The downside to this though is that after a kickass car chase sequence (that you see part of in the trailer) the action sequences start to fall flat. And to be honest, I felt kinda bored... That's not to say I was bored throughout (I was entertained the first 40 minutes then bored for like 15 and back to entertained). I wish there was more story or character development in Jimmy than there was (he's fantastically acted by my boy Sharlto Copley). He was the only entertaining character and the best part of the flick.
Full Thoughts: With mindless action and an EXTREMELY THIN plot, Hardcore Henry is an entertaining flick for a majority of the run time. So long as you can look past the shaky-cam. This isn't a movie for everyone, keep that in mind before you watch. I was the target audience for this movie and I still wasn't blown away.
6/10.
