I found the acting and production design very intriguing, unfortunately, every other part of "Hard Eight" was a complete disaster. From the script to the music, this movie couldn't find a coherent theme if it tried.
I just couldn't tell which kind of movie "Hard Eight" wanted to be. This movie screams "independent" and therefore, artistic merit, but the film isn't really about anything and I certainly didn't care enough about the characters to enjoy the story, or whatever else you might call this sad attempt at a plot.
Maybe I didn't "get" it, but in my humble opinion this movie is just bad.
