Review of Hard Candy (2005) by Brontë Y — 29 May 2011
This movie was so intense, thrilling, provocative, chilling, disturbing, and a little confusing. The acting, to me, was phenomenal. Both from Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson. Ellen Page's performance was so dark, bleak, angry, and powerful.
Wilson's performance was scared sh**less, terrified, completely raw (especially at certain parts), and very dedicated. His theater background helped. You could feel the emotions they were both feeling.
You could feel her hate and anger towards him. You could feel his anxiety, fear, and panic; all of which are compelling and omnipotent. So all-in-all, I think this is a performance-driven film that did a good job of accomplishing its goal: disturbing the audience and triggering questions.
