Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Adam N — 02 Mar 2009
If you've played Stranglehold, you should know exactly what to expect. Lots of slow-motion leap flying shooting, sliding down a stairwell rail whilst shooting, doing barrel rolls whilst shooting, landing on a wheeled tray whilst shooting, shooting whilst jumping through windows and shooting whilst getting shot at.
Chow Yun Fat has an excellent role as Tequila who finds out that a respectable criminal person has been forced to join the more 'evil' Triad but then decides he wants to be a hero. So Tequila helps him and together they become the shooting slow-motion brothers! Sure it's no Infernal Affairs but Hard Boiled makes up for what Infernal Affairs lacked - lots of explosions. Think of this as Jackie Chan's Police Story but with guns instead of fists but has the same lethal stunts (though not as suicidal as Jackie). I'm sure they broke their insurance policy too.
Unfortunately this was the normal DVD version and not the blu-ray release that comes attached with the PS3 collector's edition Stranglehold.
