Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Gareth M — 04 Jul 2009
Plays out like a video game, with the OTT shoot outs, which are superbly structured and executed. The pace, choregraphy and imagination of each set piece really is top draw, and for a base level actioner its flawless.
Its about half a hour too long; and the ending mesh of Rambo 2 gun ho mixed with Die Hard setting of hostages on a upper floor building, is a bit too much......especially the bit with the baby.
Another criticism would be say "Die Hard" works as there is only half a dozen bad guys and a leader, where the Triads (in the hospital) there is one million deaths, each one becoming increasingly mind numbingly boring.
