Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Zach N — 10 Apr 2010
I have difficulty deciding whether this or "The Dark Knight" are my all time favorite movies. "The Dark Knight" has great action and an amazing story with great characters, but "Hardboiled" takes the word action and blows it up.
This movie takes shooting to an art form, which makes it easily the greatest action film of all time. I deem "The Dark Knight" more of a thriller, but this is just straight up shoot em up to death beauty.
There must be at least 40-60 minutes of pure action in this movie. My jaw drops every time I watch the warehouse shootout. The opening shootout blows you away with a stunning opening, and the film decides to give you one absolutely insane shootout spanning 40 minutes in a hospital.
Creative kills, slow motion jumping, and plenty of Mini Uzis, pistols, and shotguns that you can ask for populate this movie. All it does is give me goosebumps. Tequila is the most awesome action hero of all time, Chow Yun Fat plays him perfectly and Tony Leung is an awesome partner/friend as well.
Everyone needs to see this film if you enjoy "Die Hard", "Heat", "The Killer", "Ronin", "The Professional", "Scarface", or any shoot em up movie.
