Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Vijay L — 07 Jul 2010
When it's not killing spree time (which is 60% of the movie), John Woo puts up some beautiful cinematography and stylishly set up scenes. Add to that a cast that's picked for style and parts of this movie are really cool.
The gunfights are impressive - never mind some characters never need to reload or get hit, while one particular character is shown reloading again and again. Never mind that the body count is in the hundreds and that some characters have absolutely no discernible reason for doing the things that they do. What's hard to take is that one continuous hour that's only gunfighting is very, very tiring - no matter how beautiful.
