Back before the slow-mo action scene became standard for every movie, there was John Woo (The HK version not the US version). He made action movies that would blow you away and at the top of the list is Hard Boiled.
The story is a great one even if it is overshadowed by the action set pieces. 2 hours of pretty much non stop violence with an over the top ending (last hour of movie) set like die hard in a hospital.
The body count is thru the roof and if you can overlook the fact each hand gun seems to shoot over 100 bullets, you should enjoy this action masterpiece.
