Review of Harakiri (1919) by Shaun B — 05 Feb 2012
One of the finest samurai period pieces ever to be placed on film. It's not full of sword fights and bloodshed (although they do make an appearance in this 2.25 hour film), but instead the drama and story itself is riveting and timeless.
I don't know what else to say other than you must see this film if you enjoy the period pieces that flooded the screens back in the 1950s - 1970s in Japanese theater. If this doesn't excite you there is no need to seek this out, as it may be too long with too much reading (subtitled).
Otherwise, a must-see.
