Review of Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) by Cristoforo G — 02 Apr 2013
While the backdrop of ancient Japan is interesting, and the photography is of value, I found the plot rather flat, lacking in any real depth. Characters are kind of bi-dimensional. It seems like it is making a critique of the samurai honour system, but the message that the film delivers in inconclusive and confusing.
Pace is heavy and plodding and some scenes are (purposefully?) pathetic... There is an indulgence in gory scenes, especially at the beginning... I walked away with very little of positive to say...
