Review of Happythankyoumoreplease (2011) by Rob S — 04 Mar 2012
Josh Radnor seems to be looking to make his Garden State here. Zack Braff, however, turned out to be a surprisingly decent writer. Josh Radnor is not so talented. From the beginning, the story is all over the place.
It seems like he started several different scripts, and when the didn't get anywhere, he stitched them loosely together. Apart from a few cute speeches and funny moments, the writing is incredibly lazy.
Got a protagonist whose actions must inevitably land him in jail? No problem! Take that random peripheral character whose job is entirely irrelevant to the story, identify him early on as "from legal on the seventh floor," and have him walk into the protagonist's holding cell! Next shot: free as a bird.
All your legal woes and kidnapping charges are surely behind you! There are three storylines that really have no connection to one another (theres a party scene to identify that the girl in one subplot is the cousin of Radnors character.
Beyond that, they never meet again). Really. This isn't very good. It's not unpleasant to watch, but that's not much of an achievement.
