Review of Happy Endings (2014) by Dane G — 08 Apr 2007
This is a pleasant enough character film it just doesn't carry as much weight as it wishes it did. At times it tries to be poignant but at times it's just sort of silly.
A nice cast and the same sense of quirkiness that made the Opposite Of Sex a good movie help elevate this one to an overall enjoyable movie experience.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is the stand out here in a vibrant and screen stealing performance. Gyllenhaal is becoming a very impressive actress to keep your eyes on, with a sharp and funny role in Stranger Than Fiction, a solid dramatic role in World Trade Center, a much talked about turn in Sherrybaby and even a good voice over in Monster House and soon to be replacing lackluster Katie Holmes in The Dark Knight the sequel to Batman Begins, she is proving to be quite a force to be reckoned with.
Openly dealing with numerous sexual issues and exploring numerous modern relationship and life issues with humorous frankness this is a good film and definately worth a watch. I mainly thought the end was just a little to rushed and choppy.
