Review of Happy Birthday to Me (1981) by Brad G — 18 Oct 2009
From the director of The Guns of the Navarone, Cape Fear, McKennaâ??s Gold, and eight mediocre Charles Bronson flicks comes this odd little slasher. And J. Lee Thompson really goes for the gusto producing some really grizzly gorey moments (The Kabob!).
Itâ??s a little slow going but the surreal birthday party climax is quite rewarding. Glen Ford picks up a paycheck as the psychiatrist and working actor Matt Craven puts in a good semi-stoner performance.
On par with slashers like The Prowler, the original My Bloody Valentine, and April Foolâ??s Day. VF.
