Review of Happiness (1965) by Jose G — 15 Jul 2008
A brilliant film. Varda has the ability to mask turmoil with a Technicolor landscape. The most ethereal aspect of the film was the score. Mozart's symphony brought about an elegant dance of beauty and tragedy.
You expect there to be certain conventions upheld (namely that the disclosure of an affair to one's spouse would end a marriage), but like the title implies, there is a certain level of happiness.
We may not completely relate to a husband having an affair, but we can relate to the individual pursuit of happiness.
