Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Thekzoshow — 04 Apr 2020
Nothing about this movie makes any sense. Hannibal Lecter didn't need a backstory because you could never make anything fit that character when it isn't necessary. The casting of Gaspard Ulliel, though his physical appearance is fitting, is terrible in every way. His facial expressions are brutal to watch and there is no way you can think of him as being a clever, cunning and psychotic individual because it looks so forced and fake it could've been in a comedy. Rhys Ifans helps him out in the overacting department since that's what he does and outside of The 51st State it doesn't work.
We are supposed to start out in Lithuania which makes zero sense. Lecter wouldn't be a name in Lithuania for anyone, not even nobles and then off course Hannibal goes to Paris. A Journey of more than 2.000 kilometers, which in 1949 for a kid with no money is impossible. His aunt takes him in, for no reasn and off course she has samurai swords and all that **** so Hannibal can have his vengeance and ooohhh the man who forced him to eat his own sister is in Paris and Hannibal starts murdering people and every time there's a situation or a problem, bang Hannibal or stupidity fixes it and it leaves you thinking "Why the **** did this just happen?". Plot-holes are everywhere so save yourself the face you're gonna make every time something idiotic happens and don't watch this trash, cause you'll be sitting with that look on your face the entire movie.
