Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Rob C — 22 Feb 2010
It was great to see how it all started for Hannibal Lecter, even though the storyline did lag at certain junctions. I believe Gaspard Ulliel played a convincing young Lecter. He had the look of a predator and prey.
The role was perfect for him. It was only logical that his apparent mental state would be affected because of the death and cannibalism of his younger sister by Nazi soldiers (Nazi's are always coming into play).
For a young boy to partake in such a hideous thing would affect any innocent mind. It was the perfect direction to take. Over time, the film shows how his skills progressed after each victim that fell under his rage.
It all came down to him finding out that he also took part in the cannibalism of his sister. You then see the real Hannibal Lecter forming in his eyes. What you see in present films of him now. This is what you call the true Hannibal Rising.
