Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Adam B — 12 Oct 2010
Hannibal Rising is a 2007 thriller film, It is the fifth film to feature Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It is a prequel to Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal.
This film tells the story of Lecter's evolution into the infamous serial killer of the previous films and books.
Directed by Peter Webber, prepare to be disappointed with this one, Hannibal Lecter goes from being one of the greatest film villains, getting reduced to a cop-out, bad excuse for a villain.
Gaspard Ulliel's performance as Lecter is quite horrid in itself, doesn't seem to match up or evolve into Anthony Hopkins portrayal.
So, having this movie not match up with the others, you here have a prequel that doesn't give a satisfying enough back story or any new facts about the characters.
While "Hannibal Rising" did finally come together at the end, it was too late.
It just didn't compare to "Silence Of The Lambs" or.
"Red Dragon", the horror has vanished, the suspense has evaporated, & the revenge theme is dumbfounded, predictable & low spirited.
