Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Lindsay Elizabeth M — 08 Mar 2010
"The butcher was like butter.".
One of my absolute favorite movies! I have been a staunch fan of the Lecter series ever since I saw the "Silence of the Lambs" when I was eight, and now that they have finally, FINALLY done a movie which explains (in a way) the origin of Dr. Hannibal Lecter and why he is the way he is, I wasn't one to miss this for anything. And I'm glad Peter Webber didn't disappoint; the way he filmed the whole movie was like a succulent piece of chocolate cake for those who relish the entire Lecter series. He was able to keep the sinister mood alive, and even add a dash of romance when he skimmed the surface of the relationship between Hannibal and his aunt. Call him an incestous, heartless killer, but if you've watched the whole movie (from the very start up to the end) you'll realize that Hannibal "The Cannibal" is just a victim of the unfortunate events of his childhood.
Cut the man some slack, people. Besides, you cannot deny that this man is a genius. Unfortunately (for those ignorant few), he uses his brains to kill or menace people, not to help.
And I don't think he'd have the number of fans he has if he were otherwise.
