Review of Hannibal (2001) by Mike H — 09 Feb 2010
A sickening but somewhat enriched sequel, like a cross between Silence and Se7en. There is a lot more to enjoy about this than the following two Hannibal movies, but it still feels nasty just for the sake of it to a degree, and Ridley Scott's style misses almost as well as it hits.
I think this might be Anthony Hopkins' best version of Hannibal; in the first he was still a little too Hopkins -- a little overly confident; in Red Dragon he was almost spoofing himself.
Despite the length of the movie, it never drags for too long. The first few scenes (with the FBI) are the dullest.
