Review of Hannibal (2001) by Chris S — 25 Sep 2010
Well I'd like to say that 'Hannibal' was probably the first novel that made me want to read more. It all started as a random chosen novel for a grade 10 book report. It sucked me in like a book never could before, and although I'm still not one for reading much, the "bad doctor" got me reading and owning the entire series.
So I HAD to own these films. And although this film holds fairly true, from what I remember, to the novel, I do however find the pace of the film rather slow. By this I mean that You sit on the edge of seat, and wait, ... and wait, with little surprise, but all suspence.
But who's really to blame though? Great story, great actors, great director, just a little longer than it needed. A lot of detail and explaining may be too much for the first time 'round, but its necessary. I found that 'Hannibal Rising' suffered from the adverce of this, But cutting out what seemed 'dull' but turns the film into a "too simple" story.
Overall I do like this movie alot, and I'm glad it strays from the formula set by "Red Dreagon" and "Silence Of The Lambs". But as for me, I liked itmost because of the novels.
