Review of Hannibal (2001) by Alice V — 07 Nov 2010
Hannibal is actually a passably good sequel to The Silence Of The Lambs, though it doesn't come close to being as great as it. Though I like how this movie gives a larger focus to the character of Hannibal Lector, once again played well by Anthony Hopkins, and Julianne Moore makes a good fill-in for Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, though Foster is still way better.
The story is good and shows a lot of potential, but it's sort of drowned out by its slow pace and how it can be a little boring at times. I'm also skeptical on the film's choice to be more violent and disturbing in ways that push it a little far at times.
In the end, it's an okay film, but unlike The Silence Of The Lambs, I just don't see myself wanting to watch this many more times or even wanting to watch it again for a while.
