Review of Hannibal (2001) by Anna B — 27 Aug 2013
Anthony Hopkins is in perfect form again...but the rest just doesn't have that great chilling feeling of Silence of the Lambs. Julianne Moore steps in for Foster, managing to perform almost as well.
Unfortunately, there's little actual interaction between her and Hopkins, so we rarely get to see how scared she can become. Without agent Sterling scared, that eerie feeling is never reflected back to the audience, and the excessive gore is unfortunately a poor substitute.
When the two of them finally do meet up at the end, that excitement returns, but tis just a bit too little too late. Hannibul is certainly a competent film, but is unfortunately overshadowed by its clearly better predecessor.
