Stylish sequel to the classic "Silence of the Lambs" that doesn't quite equal it but remains a lot of fun. Anthony Hopkins is perfection, as usual, as the title character, while Julianne Moore ably steps into the role of Clarice Starling.

They get plenty of support from the rest of the cast, most notably from Gary Oldman in a strangely unaccredited role as Mason Verger, a villain who is actually creepier than Hannibal. Scott's direction delivers plenty of atmosphere, particularly the first half set in Florence (the perfect city for Hannibal to inhabit) but the story falls apart a bit in the second half, though finally picks in the the macabre dinner scene.

Not a classic but an enjoyable (if twisted film) nevertheless.
