Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Jennifer K — 24 Oct 2008
Although "Purple Rose" was weak, I regard this as Woody's first failure. The script is cluttered with characters, none of whom are made real. Once again, Woody tells us that the dark night of the soul is best alleviated by a trip to the movies.
Incredibly, Michael Caine and Max van Sydow give poor performances. Abundant use of lively big band recordings give the film what little energy and coherence it has.
