Review of Hamlet 2 (2008) by Cass . — 16 Apr 2009
The film is simply an attempt at entertainment, and...although it succeeded in being entertaining, not much else can be said about it. Coogan is a nutball, to say the least. He can make anything funny, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a cornerstone of American comedy in a few years (although he is British).
The concept is great, the two featured songs "Rock me Sexy Jesus" and "Raped in the Face" (I still lol at that) are just tops, but the film can tend to be depressing many times. Ultimately, it's about reclaiming your dreams when you're at your lowest, but sometimes the pit of despair in this movie runs so deep, you can't really tell if you're supposed to be laughing or are actually supposed to feel pretty sad at the events.
In the end, although things were better than they started out as (With Coogan dating Elizabeth Shue and stating "Anywhere's better than Tuscon, Arizona!"), nothing is back to normal, and no morals take their claim.
It is successful entertainment, but only that.
