Review of Hamlet (1996) by Kate P — 30 Jan 2008
FULL LENGTH GLORY.
Kenneth Branagh, I love you. I could love no man more.
Though there are some moments where I think the editor rushed things a bit ( as if they couldn't handle so many majestic and glorious shots), as a whole this is GORGEOUS and brilliantly beautiful. I love love love the profuse amount of sweeping shots and the way the extensive amount of soliloquy time seems immediate and beautiful and much more real than most things you read or hear in today's century. Magnificent by any sense of the word.
Cast is also excitingly awesome. Other than the obvious, my darling Kenneth, every performance is great. Even--wait, what, was that Judi Dench? Cameos abound.
