Review of Hamlet (1990) by Katie M — 27 Nov 2007
A very good adaptation of Hamlet. Mel Gibson actually does very well in the role of the young Prince of Denmark. Glenn Close does a great job as Hamlet's mother. The whole Oedipus interpretation is a bit much.
. . probably built off the Olivier version. Helena Bonham Carter is a great Ophelia. The portrayal of this Hamlet is more conventional. It's unfortunate that so much is cut from the original text, but uber long movies generally don't work quite as well.
