Review of Hamlet (1990) by Jimbo S — 16 Dec 2008
Mel Gibson doesn't do his best, but atleast he tries very hard. Hamlet's madness went bit too far, he seemed ridiculous with his missing shoes and jumping around.
The cast was pretty potential, perhaps that's the reason to my big disapointment. Glenn Close was quite good as Gertrude, but I had to wonder why the hell did she kiss her son so often to the mouth? Ok, maybe that's been a custom then, but to me it seemed a bit twisted love.
Ian Holm was perfect Polonius and Helena Bonham Carter did well as Ophelia. Though I think that Ophelia's madness was as overreacted as Hamlets.
This was ok film, but it could have been a bit shorter. Then it might have actually worked.
