Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Jim A — 18 Oct 2009
While this is without a doubt the least beloved entry into the Halloween franchise (or any horror franchise, for that matter), I have to applaud the film for daring to be something different. John Carpenter had originally intended to continue his Halloween series with original sequels each time around, rather than re-hashing the already stretched plot of Michael Myers. This film is proof, however, that you can't change the focus of a series halfway through. If he wanted to make an original story, Carpenter should have done that with 'Halloween II', and the fans may have been more apt to accept it.
Anyhow, 'Season of the Witch', while not groundbreaking, does manage to pull some scares with an original, suspenseful, (and perhaps even pointless) plot. If you can overlook the absurdity of the villains "master plan" and enjoy the movie for its creative kills, you may find yourself enjoying. For Michael Myers fans, however, stay as far away from this as possible.
