Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Niko M — 01 Nov 2012
I enjoyed this film. It doesn't have Michael Meyers, but that's because he died in Halloween II. Then comes this attempt at making it an anthology series and I really wish the rest of the series went like this instead of becoming typical slasher fair with all the cult BS that would follow.
I watched this movie with some friends and we were all surprised as we watched it. It plays a lot like an episode of The Twilight Zone, a mystery story with a supernatural twist, a town that depends upon a factory that makes mask, with cameras on every corner and people being silenced when needed to (Hott Fuzz anyone?) and there are some scenes in this movie where I got scared and/or disturbed(when Dr.
Challis looks out the window and it cuts to 4 men in silhouette with the streetlights illuminating their figures, and knowing that these men are dangerous yet not entirely sure of their motives or identity is terrifying).
You can also dig into the possible symbolism of people hypnotically drawn to these TV's and this particular commercial that plays throughout the film and how, accompanied by the masks they purchased, are killed by it.
A commentary for sure. I say this film is worth checking out at least once, I know I wouldn't mind seeing it again. 4/5.
