Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Matthew L — 13 Dec 2012
Long before Halloween became the mess of a franchise that it is, someone had the novel idea of trying something different. Sadly audiences wanted the return of stab happy Mike and this film bombed at the box office which is a massive shame as on the whole it is a very enjoyable film that on the one hand is hampered by the 'Halloween' label but on the other would probably have been largely forgotten had it not.
Tom Atkins gives a solid performance in the lead, with some interesting turns from the supporting cast, Wallace's direction is solid, though not extraordinary, the practical effects are a real highlight especially during the scene where a man literally has his head pulled off and Carpenter also lends a hand with one of his atmospheric scores.
I'd recommend any horror fan to check this out especially over what was to follow in the franchise.
