Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by John P — 03 Oct 2013
Wow, this movie has nothing to do with the Donovan song whatsoever. Any who, it is day three and now we are getting into the nit and gritty of things as the Halloween series goes downhill from here. Okay I will admit this movie wasn't bad, but try telling that to the general audience who says there was no Michael Myers in this film. This film was supposed to take the Halloween franchise in a new direction as an anthology series with a different Halloween story each time. But everyone back then were so confused as to why it did not connect with the previous films. With the exception of the first Halloween movie being on TV. This movie was so hated and misunderstood that they just wrote it off all together because Myers was not in this. If anything, they should really complain about the title because there are no witches in this movie. So with that in mind, I am still going to review this mostly because of the fact it is a Halloween movie that ties into the whole theme of things. So if you do not like what I have to say well...tough titties because this is, after all, my review and my opinions about it. So let us get this show on the road shall we?
The general plot is pretty well thought out where it is about an evil rich mastermind who wants to return Halloween to its sacrificial origins. Dan O'Herlihy plays one hell of a hardcore role as the Conal Cochran. Some of the other actors like Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin, and Michael Currie were okay at times but seemed to have fallen a bit short with their dialogue. I also liked those silent goons in here as well where they just walk around and calmly pull people's heads right. How often do you see a goon do that in movies? The synthesizer is really creepy and gives the movie its haunting atmosphere. The death scenes are really grotesque and has the sheer balls to kill children in this movie. Now that is a horror movie that I can get behind. Overall, it is a different kind of Halloween that should be appreciated in its own right. Halloween three is the best one since the original because it IS original. Which is why I give this movie three out of five stars.
