Review of Halloween II (1981) by Wesley W — 19 Nov 2013
A pretty disappointing sequel from a widely successful predecessor. I found this movie to be bad in my opinion. This time they give you terrible jump scares with loud music to try to scare the audience but they fail and they slowly become stupid.
John Carpenter's famous Halloween score in this movie sounds awful most of the time because for no good reason whatsoever the filmmakers felt like they had to change it, it was absolutely perfect from the first Halloween movie, they didn't need to change it at all in this one.
This film also had bad acting from the new characters and as a result you do not end up caring about any of them at all and every minute you see them on screen, you wish right away that Michael could just kill them already.
Donald Pleasence is good as Dr. Samuel Loomis once again just like he was in the predecessor and Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode was good in the parts where she actually did something in the film. I thought some of the brutal kills were well put together and they didn't look too bad for a film that was made in 1981.
If this had been directed by John Carpenter, this would have been a more thoughtful and better directed sequel.
