Review of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) by Scott S — 29 Nov 2008
The best of all the sequels, not just for bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis, but for having a screenplay that comes together and makes sense (something severely lacking in the past few sequels). The entire cast is good this time, including Josh Hartnett, Michelle Williams, and LL Cool J.
It's a special treat to see Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee together again (they are real life mother and daughter). They paid homage to Leigh and her famous role in "Psycho" by having her get into her Psycho car in her final scene.
The musical score in that moment even harkens Bernard Herrmann's music from the Hitchcock classic. The score, by the way, is a shared effort by John Ottman and Marco Beltrami, and it's the best for any Halloween movie.
The ending is suitably rewarding, both emotionally and viscerally -- a rare combination. This movie feels like a proper end to the whole series. Too bad they had to keep going...
