Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Beckie . — 28 Jun 2008
This is the lowpoint of the Halloween series. One year after the events of Halloween 4, Michael Myers awakens from some sort of coma, to continue his pursuit of his niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris).
Jamie, living in a children's clinic, and for some reason, unable to speak, seems to have a psychic link to her murderous uncle and senses that he is coming for her. No one believes her except reliable ol' Dr.
Loomis, once again played by Donald Pleasence. Two big things keep this movie below par. First, French director Dominique Othenin-Girard doesn't have a sense of pacing or tension, which are essential for a movie like this.
A couple of decent set pieces and action scenes (especially a great sequence involving Michael trying to reach Jamie who has hidden herself in a laundry chute) keep thing above the level of your standard slasher flick.
Worse yet is "actress" Wendy Kaplan. Her portrayl as Tina is the single most annoying performance of the entire Halloween series. She's the Jar-Jar Binks of Halloween, and I don't think there's one single person who has seen this movie that couldn't wait for her to bite the big one.
All in all, not a bad horror flick, but a far cry from the cream of the crop.
