Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Mireille B — 02 Nov 2009
This film was a rushed product, and the evidence is quite obvious due to plenty of poor writing and disjointed editing. The teens are just stereotypical and unwatchable; Tina was probably one of the most annoying characters ever.
It also made me mad that Rachel was killed off so early; she deserved a role of greater significance after Part 4. Harris and Pleasence are still good, but the latter is becoming a little awkward to watch because of how insane he's getting.
Plus, the story just didn't do enough for me. I guess having Jamie in a children's hospital is okay, but the Man in Black concept looks like it was just thrown in randomly at the last minute. Also, why is the Myers house so vastly different from the original one? And how could they make Michael CRY?! This film isn't really horrible, but they definitely should've taken their time with it, and aimed for a Halloween 1990 release.
Not the worst, but really a step back.
