Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Kyle L — 07 Dec 2012
Halloween 5 is just as bad as it's predecessor but this movie is much worse than Halloween 4. I seriously hated this sequel as much as I hated Halloween 4 and to be honest I'm telling the truth that Halloween 5 is just as bad as it's predecessor but it's much worse than Halloween 4 and the Halloween movies are getting worse after the success of the first three Halloween films.
The plot of this film is simple and the movie takes place after the events of Halloween 4 where Jamie is now at a children's psychiatric Hospital and is traumatized by her uncle's killing spree in Haddonfield.
But soon Jamie learns that her uncle is still alive and Doctor Loomis must stop Michael before Michael kills Jamie. To be honest I seriously hate this sequel and it is much more worse than part 4. The entire film is so bad and everything in Halloween 5 ended in turmoil and I only wish they could have stopped making the Halloween films after Halloween 4 because Halloween 4 was already bad this one was much worse than part 4.
What's great about Halloween 5 is that the entire film is full of gory and gruesome kills and some of the kills in Halloween 5 are just plain gory and violent as well. The scene where Michael kills his first victim is one of the most gruesome kills in the Halloween films.
Rachel's death was really tense and suspenceful. The scene where Tina's boyfriend gets killed by Michael with one stab to the head with a gardening tool is one of the most gruesome kills in the Halloween movies.
While my personal favorite scene is the barn kill scene and that scene is really gruesome and it is the most brutal kill in the Halloween films while Tina's death was nasty and tense as well and Halloween 5 had some of the best kills in the Halloween films since Halloween II.
What I also like about this film is that the entire film has a really good atmosphere and the atmosphere is so well build in this film. The other great things about Halloween 5 is that the entire film also has an impressive camera work and the camera work in this film is great and I seriously like the camera work in this film since the camera work wasn't in Halloween 4 and I really like the camera work so far.
I also enjoy watching the laundry chute finale of Halloween 5 which is the best climax in the Halloween films since Laurie's hospital chase in Halloween II. The biggest downside of Halloween 5 is that the entire film is full of illogical plot holes and there's more plot holes in Halloween 5 than in Halloween 4.
My other problem with this film is that the entire film is hard to tell if it's scary or creepy because there's hardly any suspense or tension in this film and I can't believe that Halloween 5 is missing one of the best formulas in the previous Halloween films.
I also didn't like the characters in this film and all of the characters in Halloween 5 are really annoying. Plus the whole movie is also full of bad dialogue which was not in Halloween 4 and the dialogue in Halloween 5 is so bad and Halloween 4 had some better dialogue but part 5 is just plain worse the dialogue is just awful in this movie.
And the last problem with Halloween 5 is the design of Michael Myers' mask. The mask is much worse in this film than Halloween 4's mask design and Michael isn't scary anymore in Halloween 5 and I prefer Michael's mask design in the first two Halloween films and in Halloween H20 because he looks super scary in those films than in Halloween 4-6 so far.
Now the acting is great some of the new actors though are atrocious and really bad in acting in this movie with the exception of Donald Pleasance and Danielle Harris as the great Doctor Loomis and Jamie Lloyd and both actors really did a good job with they're work in the film so far.
Director Dominique Othenin Girard seriously went down the hill when he directed this film and I think his work on Omen IV is better but that movie is still down the hill although I admit that Dominique's work on Omen IV is way better than his work on Halloween 5 because this movie is so forgettable for one reason.
Overall Halloween 5 gets a 2/10 because the movie may have some of the best moments but it goes down the hill really fast and this is a forgettable sequel that doesn't have any great moments for one reason.
