Review of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) by Jared H — 06 Jul 2008
Decent return for the series after the enjoyable, but unrelated Season of the Witch. Young Danielle Harris is a surprisingly likeable screen pressence and far from the typically grating young Hollywood starlet. Ellie Cornell is also wonderfully likeable and Rachel, Jamie's adoptive sister.
Pleasance also returns as Sam Loomis and is as wonderfully batty as ever.
The film has a few great, suspenseful, and genuinely frightening set pieces, but for the most part, the film is rather ho-hum. Once the film gets to its climax, the action never stops and it makes for a very exciting finale, with a real zinger of a final shot that opened up amazing new possibilities for the series, that sadly was dropped for the truely abysmal Revenge of Michael Myers.
