Review of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) by Alex S — 01 Nov 2018
In Halloween 4, it's been 10 years since Michael Myers' Halloween night killing spree that left a bunch of people and a couple of dogs dead. Now he's back, and is looking for his niece Jamie.
I kind of like the plot on this one. I know I complained that making Laurie Strode his sister took away from his mystery, but since this is a sequel to that film, they worked with what they had, and it actually works now.
Michael doesn't have the same mask as before. He has some cheapy piece of shit rip off that makes him look less scary. The first mask was iconic, and they couldn't get it back. Michael goes around massacring countless people in hilarious ways, like impaling a woman with a shotgun, ripping a guy's throat open with his bare hands, and electrocuting a man.
The movie isn't half bad. Michael is a lot less scary, but Dr. Loomis' return is welcome, and the characters are genuinely likable. I do actually like this one, though it's the beginning of a real decline in quality for this series.
