Review of Halloween (2018) by John T — 19 Oct 2018
Opens with an intense introduction. Retains the mystery of the 1978 film. Gets rid of the stupid sibling plot. Brings back a brutal Myers. All the while, executing it in a 2018 style.
Everyone that hates is a fake or not a fan.
This movie is everything for a true fan. It's better than everything after Halloween 2, so all these ungrateful people need to go home, and be thankful Myers lives on, for new and old to see.
There's some interesting metaphors, for instance, "Say something Michael, say something!", uttered in the opening, is merely there to show us that Michael is being summoned, his voice needs to be heard again, not in a literal sense, but in the sense of his return.
Another in the title sequence; a rotted pumpkin, regenerating, returning to its full glory, much like the saga itself.
Complaints about a certain doctor, Dr. sartain, are not valid, because he is the nod to Halloween 6's Dr. Wynn, so all fans of each movie get a turn to admire the callbacks; he's also every fan, every person who wants to understand Michael, to be him.
The deeper meanings in this film make it smart, and not the cash grab, dumb movie people are claiming; they're the ones who can't see it for what it is. Maybe they should go back to Halloween: Resurrection, or the Rob Zombie films, if they prefer the older movies.
I love Halloween 2, but I also love this new film, perhaps more, for the fact it brings Halloween back to being scary again, by having Michael a stone-cold killer, and Laurie just some random Babysitter who was in the wrong town, on the wrong night.
The curse of Thorn has well and truly gone, for this film is a sequel worth watching.
